Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents his first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.
Victory also indicates he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour championship, took control to force a decider.
The opponent rescued four initial break points in a close final set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
